Personal data divulged, for a safer world of course…

July 23rd, 2007 by Wenslauw

This is one of the reasons I refuse to travel to/through the United States these days. The last I read about this was that finally something was going to be done about the United States demanding extremely detailed information about European travelers visiting or passing through the United States with a complete disregard for privacy.

I have no faith in the ethical usage of all the data collected, from the article:’Data on EU citizens will be readily accessible to a broad range of US agencies and there is no limitation to what US authorities are allowed to do with the data.’ If the United States doesn’t even respect the rights of so-called ‘unlawful combatants’, how can I trust them to respect my privacy. You can bet on it that within no time information about European citizens will be available to every company connected to the Bush government, and there’s concern about ‘the absence of a robust legal mechanism that enables EU citizens to challenge misuse of their personal information’.
