Here it is…
No, I am not talking about the Leonard Cohen song. I’m talking about the pictures of the server that I promised.
They are available after the break.
Yes, I admit the couch in these pictures has the most ugly ass fabric ever made, but it comfortably sleeps two people. So don’t complain about it. it’s a left over from when I was a student.
In picture 2 you can clearly see the two hot swap bays. Each contains a 320 Gb Seagate Barracuda SE drive.
In picture 5 you can see the six (3×2) fans. In this system each fan consists of two fans bolted together. The two fans are not spinning in the same direction, allegedly making for a better spread of the air flow. Or something like that. I forgot. These fans run at about 11.000 revolutions per minute. This means that the damned thing sounds like a fighter jet about to take off.
The heart of the server is an Intel Xeon 3070 2.66 Ghz dual core processor. It’s under the black air shroud to the left of the fans in picture 5. You can see a bit of its copper cooling element at the left end of the shroud. Like most serious servers the processed is cooled passively.
People complaining about the poor picture quality: donations can be sent to me for a Canon EOS 40D.
