Farewell party

November 28th, 2007 by Wenslauw

When a colleague of mine quit her job about half a year ago she gave a party. It was a nice opportunity to see a lot of people again who had left the company earlier. As our department had been ripped apart by changes in the organisation over the years, there were a lot of people to reconnect with. So when I knew I was going to leave I decided to organise a party too. For me the change would be even bigger as I would also leave the area and move to an other part of the country. So a good reason to throw a farewell party.

So last Friday I started making meatballs from around 2pm and it was not until after 5:30pm that I finished the last batch. I made several batches. One batch was gluten-free so as not to kill a co-worker of mine who can’t handle the stuff.

I also had some veggie cheese pies. And of course 6 cases of beer, making for a total of 144 bottles of beer. ;)

I planned the party immediately after work, so at 6pm the first person showed up. I had invited more than 20 people, but I had only done so the Monday before. To some this might sound like enough time, but in the Netherlands you have to plan everything weeks and weeks ahead. I am just not into that, so I did not do that. heh. So quite a few people already had other plans and two were sick. At some point I counted 11 people. Not bad after all. The last persons left around 1am.
