Groningen in GDP top ten list
Oddly enough Groningen, the town I lived in until the end of last year, is in the top ten of areas in Europe with the highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product.) It is listed before any other Dutch city. Utrecht, my current home is the next highest Dutch city. Read about it here.
I wonder how this is possible. It might be because there are quite a few IT companies and not a lot of low paying industrial jobs. Anyway, what do you I know about this stuff? Just struck me as odd. I guess I’d better look up the exact meaning of a GDP. The article does say that workers living outside the area can dramatically raise production. That might explain it partly. The north of the province south of the city of Groningen does contain a lot of highly paid workers who work in Groningen.
